Bandits abduct 5, loot food in Plateau market
Bandits attacked the Dogon Ruwa community in Bashar District of Wase Local Government Area, Plateau State, abducting five residents during a busy market day.
According to eyewitnesses, the assailants stormed the market around 11 am on motorcycles, firing sporadically and looting shops. They reportedly stole large quantities of food and medical supplies.
The market, which draws hundreds of buyers and sellers from surrounding areas, was in full operation when the attack occurred. Items like flour, rice, beans, and beverages were among those looted.
“They surrounded the community and went directly to the market, where they kidnapped five shop owners. It seems the attack was strategically timed to coincide with market day,” said Shapi’i Sambo, a youth leader in Wase.
Security personnel, including soldiers and vigilantes, have been mobilised in pursuit of the kidnappers.
As of the time of filing this report, the spokesperson for Operation Safe Haven, Major Samson Zhakom, could not been reached to respond to inquiries.
Dogon Ruwa and other villages in the Bashar District have experienced a surge in bandit attacks, leading to loss of lives and widespread property destruction.
