Badaru Denies Viral Resignation Claim Over Alleged Trump’s Threat
Former Defence Minister Mohammed Badaru has denounced a viral online publication that falsely claimed his resignation was due to objections over alleged United States military operations in Nigeria, describing the report as a deliberate fabrication.
Badaru, who stepped down on December 1 citing health reasons, issued a statement on Wednesday refuting the post, which alleged he “cannot stand and watch the US and Tinubu government bombing our brothers in the forest.”
In a firm rebuttal, Badaru condemned the claim as a malicious attempt to tarnish his reputation and sow discord between him and President Bola Tinubu.
“My attention has been drawn to a malicious, false and baseless publication circulating online. I wish to state categorically that this publication is entirely false, deliberately mischievous, and did not originate from me or from any authorized representative acting on my behalf,” he said.
He asserted that the post was engineered to “tarnish my hard-earned reputation, sow discord between me and the Commander-in-Chief, and create needless distractions from the important work of governance.”
Badaru stressed that his reasons for resigning were clearly communicated to the president and made public, dismissing any insinuation of ulterior motives as “a complete falsehood engineered by mischief-makers.”
Reaffirming his loyalty, he added, “I remain firmly committed to the peace, security and stability of our nation. My loyalty to the President and unwavering support for the Renewed Hope Agenda remain intact.”
Following Badaru’s resignation, President Tinubu nominated former Chief of Defence Staff General Christopher Musa (rtd.) as the new Defence Minister. The Senate confirmed Musa’s appointment on Wednesday.
