Asisat Oshoala Denies Retirement Rumour From Super Falcon
Six-time African Player of the Year, Asisat Oshoala, 30, denied speculation that she plans to retire from international football following the ongoing 2024/25 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.
The rumor stemmed from a viral post shared Monday morning by an unverified social media account claiming Oshoala would step away from the Super Falcons after the tournament.
However, a close associate of the striker confirmed to Blueprint in Casablanca that no such decision has been made, adding that Oshoala remains fully committed to Nigeria’s campaign for a historic 10th WAFCON title.
“There is no retirement announcement from Oshoala. It’s fake news and it should be totally disregarded. She is focused on WAFCON and the task ahead,” the source said.
The Super Falcons face a tough semi-final clash against South Africa Tuesday, and Oshoala remains determined to lead the charge for victory.
Oshoala has not released any official statement on retirement through her verified social media accounts.
Oshoala, who opened Nigeria’s scoring at the tournament with a quick goal against Tunisia in the group stage, is regarded as one of Africa’s greatest female footballers. With six CAF Women’s Player of the Year titles to her name, she continues to be a key figure for both club and country.
