Army, DSS, Others Kill 45 Bandits In Niger
Troops of the Nigerian Army, in collaboration with hybrid forces and backed by intelligence from the Department of State Services (DSS), have eliminated 45 armed bandits targeting Iburu Village in Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger State.
According to security sources, DSS operatives intercepted intelligence indicating that the assailants, traveling in groups on motorcycles, were advancing toward Iburu and surrounding villages. Swiftly acting on the alert, army troops engaged the attackers in a fierce confrontation on Friday.
Sources revealed that villagers reported counting over 40 bodies presumed to be those of the slain terrorists, as well as dozens of their motorcycles destroyed during the clash.
Two members of the hybrid forces fighting alongside soldiers lost their lives, while four others were receiving treatment for serious gunshot injuries at a public hospital in the state capital.
Recall that in April, the Comptroller General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Bashir Adeniyi, raised the alarm over terrorist activities around the Babanna border in Niger State.
Adeniyi said his men were lucky to have survived an ambush by the terrorists who were angered by the seizure by the Customs officers of 500 jerrycans of petrol that smugglers were delivering to them.
