Army Arrests Wanted Kidnapper During N20 Million Ransom Negotiation

Troops of the Nigerian Army’s 6 Brigade have arrested a high-profile kidnapping suspect in Taraba State, dealing a blow to a criminal syndicate operating in the Wukari area.

The suspect, Umar Musa Geyi, was apprehended on November 22, 2025, in the Jandei–Kulamu area based on credible intelligence. According to Lieutenant Umar Mohammed, the Army spokesperson, Geyi was arrested in the act of negotiating a N20 million ransom for the release of an abducted victim, Alhaji Jano, who was kidnapped on November 13.

The arrest was executed by troops of Sector 3, Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), and Operation Zafin Wuta, who intercepted the suspect during a phone conversation where he allegedly confirmed the victim was still in captivity and made the ransom demand.

Lieutenant Mohammed stated that Umar Musa Geyi has been on the wanted list of security agencies and is believed to be a key figure in a kidnapping network in the region.

The suspect is currently in custody undergoing further interrogation to aid in locating the victim and facilitating a rescue operation.

The Commander of the 6 Brigade, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, praised the troops for their professionalism and reaffirmed the Brigade’s unwavering commitment to dismantling criminal networks and restoring security across Taraba State.
