Alaafin Owoade’s coronation holds tomorrow
The historic town of Oyo is embracing a refreshed appearance as it prepares to welcome visitors from all walks of life for the grand coronation of Oba Akeem Owoade, the new monarch of this prestigious Yoruba town.
Oba Owoade completed the 21-day traditional rites known as Oro Ipebi last Saturday, March 29, 2025.
A statement by the Director of Media and Publicity to the Alaafin, Mr Bode Durojaiye, said the coronation ceremony will hold at Oliveth Baptist High School, Oyo.
Oba Owoade, who was presented with the staff of office and instrument of office on Monday, January 13, 2025, at the Governor’s Office in Ibadan, ascends the throne after the late Oba Lamidi Adeyemi III passed away.
The Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Akeem Owoade, has urged both the indigenes and residents of the ancient city to celebrate with moderation.
He advised them against beating drums of vendetta, persecution, and acrimony, which he described as ill winds that will not blow anything good.
