Dangote Details $5M Swiss School Fees, Questions NMDPRA Boss, Farouk’s Wealth

In a paid newspaper advertisement on Tuesday, Aliko Dangote, Chairman of the Dangote Group, detailed his allegation that Farouk Ahmed, CEO of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), spent approximately $5 million on the secondary school education of his four children in Switzerland.

The accusation follows Dangote’s statement on Monday, in which he described the alleged $5 million expenditure as an act of “economic sabotage and corruption.”

In the advertisement, Dangote identified Ahmed’s children as Faisal Farouk, Farouk Jr., Ashraf Farouk, and Farhana Farouk. He stated they attended elite Swiss institutions—Montreux School, Aiglon College, Institut Le Rosey, and La Garenne International School—over a six-year period.

Dangote provided a cost breakdown, estimating annual expenses for tuition, airfare, and upkeep at $200,000 per child, totaling $800,000 yearly for all four. Over six years, he calculated the cumulative cost for living expenses and air travel at $4.8 million. Combining these figures, Dangote asserted the total secondary education cost reached $5 million.

He further outlined tertiary education expenses, estimating an average of $125,000 per child annually over four years, amounting to $2 million for all four children. Dangote specifically noted that Faisal Farouk’s recently completed Harvard MBA in 2025 cost $210,000.

Concluding his statement, Dangote questioned the source of the funds, stating Nigerians deserve to know how a public officer could afford such expenditures while “many parents in his home state of Sokoto cannot afford to pay N10,000 school fees for their children and wards.”
