Ekiti 2026: Oyebanji Reappoints Old Cabinet Ahead of Governorship Election

Governor Biodun Oyebanji of Ekiti State has forwarded a list of commissioner-nominees to the State House of Assembly to reconstitute his cabinet. The list exclusively features the same former commissioners who served in his administration until its dissolution on August 10, 2025.

In a statement released by the Governor’s Special Adviser on Media, Yinka Oyebode, the move followed extensive consultations with the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ekiti and other key stakeholders. According to the statement, the decision prioritizes party unity ahead of the upcoming governorship election on June 20, 2026.

“The decision was hinged on the need for the party to go into the June 20, 2026 Ekiti State Governorship election as a united family,” the statement explained. “It is believed that appointing a new set of commissioners barely seven months to the election could be counter-productive.”

The statement also referenced the governor’s initial commitment to participatory governance, noting that party leaders and community stakeholders played a crucial role in the original selection process for commissioners in 2023.

This return of former cabinet members, the statement suggests, honors that collaborative foundation and ensures continuity as the administration approaches the election.
