Gunmen Abduct Six Real Estate Marketers in Ogun
Gunmen kidnapped six marketers from a Lagos-based real estate firm on Friday at Oyebola village in Ogun State’s Obafemi-Owode Local Government Area.
The Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Lanre Ogunlowo, confirmed the abduction on Sunday.
The incident underscores growing security concerns in the Southwest, a region previously regarded as one of Nigeria’s most peaceful, and occurred just days after a high-level meeting between Southwest governors and traditional rulers on insecurity.
According to CP Ogunlowo, the victims were abducted while inspecting the company’s land. “They brought some marketers from Lagos to see the land so they could market it to interested members of the public,” Ogunlowo explained.
“It was during this visit that the six people were taken. The command has been on it since Friday, and we will ensure these people regain their freedom.”
A resident of a neighbouring community, who requested anonymity, had earlier alerted our correspondent to the attack.
This kidnapping adds to a recent surge in abductions nationwide. While 38 worshippers in Kwara State and 24 students in Kebbi State have been freed, many others remain in captivity.
This includes over 250 pupils, students, and staff abducted from St. Mary’s Secondary and Primary School in Papiri, Niger State, where gunmen also killed a security guard. Approximately 50 students managed to escape following that attack.
