FCT Politics: PDP Chairmanship Aspirant, Councillor, 203 Others Defect to APC
In a significant political realignment ahead of the 2026 council elections, a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chairmanship aspirant in Gwagwalada Area Council, Alhaji Rabiu Saba, the incumbent councillor for Kutunku ward, Murtala Hassan, and 203 other PDP members have defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
The mass defection ceremony was attended by top APC stakeholders, including FCT APC Chairman Alhaji Abdulmalik Usman and the outgoing council chairman, Alhaji Abubakar Jibrin Giri.
Speaking on behalf of the defectors, Alhaji Rabiu Saba stated that their decision was motivated by the developmental achievements of the outgoing APC-led administration in the council.
He assured that they would work diligently to ensure victory for the APC in the upcoming February 21, 2026, council polls.
The Gwagwalada APC chapter chairman, Alhaji Ahmed Dan Baba, and the party’s chairmanship candidate, Alhaji Usman Yahaya, welcomed the new members, assuring them of equal treatment and inclusion in party affairs.
Yahaya specifically pledged to carry the defectors along in his administration if elected.
