Parent of Three Abducted Niger School Pupils Dies of Heart Attack
In a tragic turn of events, a parent of three children abducted from St. Mary’s Catholic School in Niger State has died from a heart attack, overwhelmed by the trauma of the incident.
The Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in the Northern region and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Rev. John Hayab, confirmed the death in an interview with ARISE Television.
The man, identified only as Mr. Anthony, succumbed to the shock after learning that his three children were among the more than 300 pupils seized by bandits during last week’s attack.
Rev. Hayab described the profound grief and fear gripping the parents, noting that many are too traumatized to speak publicly. He painted a harrowing picture of the captives’ ordeal, stating, “These are children who are used to… breakfast and then dinner.
These children have not seen sleep in the past few days… and have not even taken their bath. You can imagine what they are going through.”
While fifty pupils have since escaped and returned to their families, the fate of Mr. Anthony’s children and the remaining captives remains unknown, compounding the community’s anguish.
The death of Mr. Anthony underscores the devastating ripple effects of the mass abduction, where the psychological toll is proving as fatal as the violence itself.
