Police Intercept 300 Rounds of Ammunition In Lagos, Arrest Five
The Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) Annex in Alagbon, Lagos, has intercepted a major shipment of contraband, including 300 rounds of live 9mm ammunition, following a credible intelligence tip-off.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Aminat Mayegun, the operation was initiated by the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of the Annex, Mrs. Margaret Ochalla.
The ammunition was discovered concealed inside a Nissan Frontier pickup truck during a detailed search of a container, conducted in the presence of the clearing agent and alleged receivers.
Five suspects have been apprehended in connection with the illegal shipment. Preliminary investigations reveal that the consignment originated from a U.S.-based shipper who deliberately failed to declare the ammunition and other contraband in the shipping documents.
The illicit items were hidden among legitimate goods, including two Toyota Sienna vans, 24 bags of foreign rice, seven bales of used clothing, and cartons of vegetable oil, in an apparent attempt to bypass port security.
ASP Mayegun stated that the FCID is now probing the ammunition’s intended destination and possible links to wider criminal or arms-trafficking networks.
The department is collaborating with the Nigeria Customs Service and the Department of State Services (DSS) to ensure a coordinated investigation and prosecution under the Firearms Act.
The AIG reaffirmed the department’s commitment to combating insecurity and urged the public to continue providing credible information to security agencies to help dismantle criminal networks.
