38 Kwara Church Abductees Regain Freedom
Thirty-eight worshippers at the Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) in Eruku, Kwara State, who were abducted by gunmen, have regained their freedom, State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq disclosed this on Sunday.
The governor, in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Rafiu Ajakaye, credited the successful release to the direct intervention of President Bola Tinubu.
He stated that the President’s hands-on approach, which included postponing a trip to the G20 meeting in South Africa, was pivotal to the operation.
Governor AbdulRazaq also expressed appreciation to the national security agencies, including the Office of the National Security Adviser, the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigerian Army, and the Nigeria Police Force, for their coordinated efforts that led to the victims’ freedom.
The church secretary, Michael Agbabiaka, separately confirmed the news, stating that the community was notified by the DSS and is eagerly awaiting the return of the abductees to reunite with their families.
The rescue brings a hopeful end to a crisis that began with a violent attack on the church last Tuesday, which resulted in three deaths and the mass abduction that sparked national outrage.
