EFCC Arrests ‘Archbishop’ For Alleged Naira Abuse
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested a self-acclaimed Archbishop, Angel Oyeghe, founder of Faith Healing Ministry in Warri, Delta State, for alleged conspiracy, naira mutilation, and money laundering.
The arrest was carried out by the EFCC’s Benin Zonal Directorate on Tuesday. It follows the circulation of a viral video from a church event that showed individuals under her supervision spraying a live cow with Naira notes.
This act is a direct violation of Section 21 of the Central Bank of Nigeria Act, 2007, which prohibits the abuse, spraying, or hawking of the currency.
The EFCC has confirmed that Archbishop Oyeghe has provided “useful statements” and will be charged to court upon the conclusion of the investigation. The Commission also stated that it is actively pursuing other individuals involved in the incident seen in the video.
