Super Falcons Crowned CAF’s Best National Team After Historic WAFCON Triumph
Capping off a spectacular year of dominance, Nigeria’s Super Falcons have been crowned the 2025 CAF Women’s National Team of the Year. The prestigious award was presented on Wednesday, November 19, at a gala ceremony held at the Mohammed VI Polytechnic University in Rabat, Morocco.
This collective honour is a direct result of the team’s flawless and triumphant campaign at the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), where they clinched a historic 10th title. Under the guidance of head coach Justin Madugu, the Super Falcons were imperious from the start, advancing from the group stage with victories over Tunisia, Botswana, and Algeria without conceding a single goal.
Their momentum only grew in the knockout stages. They delivered a stunning 5–0 quarterfinal victory against Zambia, followed by a hard-fought 2–1 win over South Africa in the semifinals, which set the stage for a dramatic final against host nation Morocco.
The championship match provided one of the most memorable moments in the tournament’s history. After falling two goals behind, the Super Falcons mounted a stunning second-half comeback, scoring three unanswered goals to overturn the deficit and seize the trophy in a breathtaking fashion.
This continental triumph, characterized by both resilient defense and explosive attacking prowess, not only secured the CAF award but also solidified Nigeria’s enduring status as a powerhouse in women’s football. The team’s success was further amplified by several individual player nominations at the same awards ceremony.
