“No Communication, No Funding”: Obidient Movement Mobilisation Director Resigns, Blasts Peter Obi
Morris Monye, the Director of Mobilisation for the Obidient Movement, has resigned from his position, delivering a stinging critique of the movement’s internal disarray and lack of support from its leader, Peter Obi.
Announcing his resignation in a statement on Thursday, Monye declared his role “untenable,” citing the movement’s “poor coordination” and its “underwhelming performance” in the recent Anambra State governorship election, where the Labour Party secured a dismal 1.5% of the vote.
In a revealing account, Monye stated that he personally bankrolled nationwide mobilisation efforts without any financial or strategic support from the movement’s leadership. “No money was given to the Directorate of Mobilisation. There’s no bank account even for the directorate,” he disclosed, adding pointedly, “In fact, Mr Peter Obi has never asked what we are doing in mobilisation – no communication, nothing.”
He lamented that despite his passion and nearly a year of work, most of the movement’s plans remained unfulfilled. “I won’t be part of optics and no work,” he stated.
Monye also revealed the personal cost of his affiliation, noting that he and his businesses faced constant harassment, which took a toll on his family.
Listing his contributions, he highlighted creating an online registration system, reviving support groups, and launching a university network. He urged his successor to complete his initiative to equip polling agents with body cameras for electoral transparency.
In a parting advice to Peter Obi, Monye cautioned that the movement could not rely on the “general goodwill” of 2023. He called for the engagement of professional consultants, proper funding for directorates, and a results-driven structure.
He concluded by stating he would now focus on his businesses and personal development, including pursuing a course at Oxford or Cambridge University, while continuing to advocate for good governance.
