Man Jailed for Stealing Stick of Cigarette in Adamawa
In a case heard by the Adamawa State Jail Delivery Committee, a 48-year-old man, Mathias Yusuf, was sentenced on Thursday to a three-month jail term and community service for theft.
Presided over by the State Chief Judge, Justice Hafsat Abdulrahman, the committee delivered the judgment after Yusuf confessed to stealing six bottles of liquor and cigarettes from a beer parlour in the Jambutu area of Yola North Local Government.
The convict explained that he was caught after consuming the stolen alcohol and becoming intoxicated.
Yusuf had initially been remanded at the Jimeta Custodial Centre by the Chief Magistrate Court II on 19th August 2025, following his arrest for the offence, which contravenes Section 278 of the Penal Code Law.
The court ordered that his jail term be counted from the date of his remand and additionally directed him to perform community service by sweeping a health facility in Jambutu.
