Victor Osimhen of Nigeria and Bryan Mbeumo of Cameroon are the star strikers leading their nations in the African play-offs for the 2026 World Cup.
Nigeria faces Gabon, and Cameroon takes on the Democratic Republic of Congo in the semi-finals of the African play-offs held in Rabat, Morocco.
The winners of these matches will meet again in Rabat for a final play-off spot in March’s intercontinental playoffs — the last gateway to the expanded 48-team World Cup in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
Nigeria and Cameroon are among the four best runners-up trying to secure the last chance to qualify for Africa’s 10th World Cup representative spot.
Osimhen has been in great form, recently scoring a hat-trick against Benin and a Champions League treble for Galatasaray, while Mbeumo, now with Manchester United, has also been impactful, helping his team maintain strong Premier League form.
The stakes are high, with only one of these top African strikers likely to keep their World Cup dreams alive as their teams battle through these critical playoff stages.
