Army Rescues 86 Victims, Arrests 29 Terrorists in Borno

In a major counter-insurgency victory, troops of Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) have liberated 86 kidnapped civilians and dismantled a key terrorist supply chain during coordinated operations across Borno State, military authorities announced Monday.

The successful missions, disclosed in an official statement by Lt. Col. Sani Uba, Media Information Officer for the Joint Task Force North East, mark significant gains in the ongoing nationwide offensive against terrorist and insurgent groups.

The breakthrough occurred on November 9, when units of the 135 Special Forces Battalion, operating under Sector 2 OPHK, engaged Boko Haram and ISWAP terrorists at Dutse Kura. The troops intercepted the insurgents during an active abduction operation targeting civilians and vehicles along the critical Buratai–Kamuya Road.

“Troops thwarted the attack and pursued the terrorists towards Mangari, overpowering them in a follow-up encounter near a camp, which forced the insurgents to flee in disarray,” Lt. Col. Uba stated.

Following the firefight, a thorough search and clearance operation resulted in the destruction of 11 terrorist makeshift structures and the rescue of 86 hostages, comprising men, women, and children who had been abducted by the militants.

The operation yielded substantial recoveries, including one AK-47 rifle, five magazines containing 73 rounds of ammunition, four PKT ammunition belts, five civilian vehicles, five motorcycles, and eight bicycles. The terrorists’ camp was completely destroyed following the clearance.

In a related, strategically crucial operation, troops deployed at Mangada apprehended 29 suspected terrorist logistics suppliers. The suspects were intercepted en route to Chilaria, transporting a large cache of supplies intended for terrorist elements.

Recovered items from the logistics cell included two pickup vans and a tricycle loaded with over 1,000 litres of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), four gallons of engine oil, two new gun truck tyres, a significant quantity of medical consumables, and large stores of foodstuffs and provisions.

“The Military High Command commends the gallantry and professionalism of the troops while charging Operation Hadin Kai to sustain operations to deny terrorists freedom of action across the North-East theatre,” the statement added.

All operations were executed successfully with no casualties reported among the troops. These decisive actions form part of the Nigerian Army’s intensified nationwide offensive, which has recorded substantial successes against terrorist, insurgent, and economic sabotage elements in the last 48 hours.
