19 Bandits neutralised in Kano as Gunmen killed Community Leaders in Katsina

The Nigerian Army has confirmed the killing of 19 armed bandits during a fierce gun battle in Shanono Local Government Area of Kano State. The operation, which took place on November 1, targeted criminal elements reportedly moving around the Ungwan Tudu area in the Goron Dutse axis.

According to a statement by Babatunde Zubairu, Assistant Director of Public Relations at the Army’s 3 Brigade, troops were alerted to the bandits’ movement and swiftly launched a coordinated raid alongside other security agencies. The bandits, who arrived on motorcycles, were engaged in a firefight that led to their neutralization.

“Troops deployed at Tsaure came in contact with the bandits, resulting in an exchange of fire. Our forces successfully pursued the criminals, recovering several motorcycles and two mobile phones,” the statement read.

Zubairu added that two soldiers and one local vigilante lost their lives during the operation. He assured that further security operations are ongoing in the area to safeguard vulnerable communities from banditry and cattle rustling.

Meanwhile, in a separate incident in Katsina State, armed bandits launched a deadly night attack on Doguwar Ɗorawa, a village located two kilometers from Guga in Bakori Local Government Area. The raid occurred around 10 p.m. on Tuesday and lasted for over an hour.

Mahadi Danbinta Guga, a prominent community leader, confirmed the attack in a phone interview on Wednesday morning. “Doguwar Ɗorawa lost two of its most respected elders — Alhaji Bishir and his brother, Alhaji Surajo. They were slaughtered, not shot,” he said.

Guga revealed that several residents were abducted during the assault and that he was en route to the village for the burial and to assess the full extent of the casualties.

The attack is the latest in a string of violent raids on rural communities in Bakori, raising concerns about the effectiveness of the Katsina State Government’s widely publicized peace accord with bandit groups.

The Nigerian Army has urged citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity as efforts continue to restore security across affected regions.
