Over 100 APC Members Defect to NNPP in Kano
The Kano State Government has announced the defection of more than 100 members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) from Tarai in Kibiya Local Government Area to the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP).
Among the defectors was the APC woman leader in the area, Hajiya Sabuwa Tarai, who led the group into the NNPP fold. They were formally received by the Kano State Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Adamu Aliyu Kibiya.
The development was confirmed in a statement issued on Wednesday by Balarabe Kiru, Director of Public Enlightenment at the Ministry.
“Kano State Commissioner, Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Adamu Aliyu Kibiya, has received over one hundred APC supporters from Tarai in Kibiya Local Government Area under the party woman leader who decamped into NNPP,” the statement read.
Speaking on behalf of the defectors, Hajiya Sabuwa Tarai said their decision was influenced by the visible development projects and programmes initiated by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s administration.
“We are impressed by the numerous projects executed by Gov. Yusuf at the local government and state level,” she said.
Commissioner Kibiya welcomed the new members into the NNPP, assuring them of equal treatment and encouraging them to contribute actively to the party’s growth.
Also addressing the gathering, Hajiya Bintoto, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Women Enlightenment, congratulated the defectors and assured them of a meaningful role within the party.
NNPP Chairman for Kibiya Local Government Area, Sabo Abdullahi, expressed joy over the influx of new members, attributing it to the governor’s transformative leadership.
In a contrasting development, no fewer than 650 NNPP members defected to the APC in Gobirawa Ward, Dala Local Government Area, as well as parts of Fagge and Ungoggo LGAs. The defectors, organized under various leadership clusters, were received by Rabiu Bichi, Managing Director of the Hadejia-Jama’are River Basin Development Authority.
The dual defections reflect the dynamic political shifts currently unfolding across Kano State.
