Hilda Baci, the renowned Nigerian chef and culinary influencer, has announced that her Guinness World Record-breaking pot of jollof rice is not for sale or auction.
This statement comes after she set the world record for cooking the largest serving of Nigerian-style jollof rice, weighing a staggering 8,780 kilograms (approximately 19,356 pounds), at an event held in Victoria Island, Lagos, on September 12, 2025.
The monumental feat saw Hilda and her team spend nine hours preparing the dish in a specially designed giant pot capable of holding 23,000 liters.
The jollof rice included 4,000 kilograms of washed basmati rice, 600 kilograms of onions, 500 kilograms of her own jollof pepper mix, 168 kilograms of fresh goat meat, and additional ingredients to perfect the beloved West African staple.
Despite a dramatic incident where the massive pot fell from a crane during the weighing process, the dish remained intact and was later portioned out and shared with the crowd that had gathered to witness the historic cooking feat.
Following this achievement, Hilda Baci clearly stated that the massive jollof pot would not be sold or put up for auction. She emphasized that the pot represents a symbol of hard work, cultural pride, and unity rather than a commodity.
The event, tagged the “Gino World Jollof Festival,” drew thousands of attendees and enormous social media attention, with notable Nigerian celebrities and dignitaries showing their support.
Hilda, who previously held the record for the longest cooking marathon in 2023, expressed immense pride in representing Nigerian cuisine on such a massive scale, highlighting the dish’s cultural significance and its unifying role across West Africa.
Her record-breaking jollof rice and the iconic pot have since become emblematic of Nigerian culinary excellence and heritage, inspiring many young chefs and food lovers across the continent.
In her announcement, Hilda thanked her dedicated team, partners, and supporters and reinforced her commitment to promoting Nigerian cuisine globally.
Her declaration that the jollof pot is not for sale underscores its symbolic value and the deep respect she holds for this landmark achievement.
