UK’s MI6 Launches Portal To Recruit Foreign Spies
The UK’s foreign intelligence service, MI6, has introduced a dark web portal called “Silent Courier” to recruit new informants, including those based in Russia.
The platform allows individuals with sensitive information regarding terrorism or hostile intelligence activities to contact the UK securely, with access instructions provided on MI6’s verified YouTube channel.
“As our virtual door is open to you,” said outgoing MI6 chief Richard Moore during the portal’s launch.
MI6 recommends using the Tor browser, unlinked devices, separate email accounts, and VPNs where necessary to access the service. Instructions are available in multiple languages.
Foreign Minister Yvette Cooper emphasized the need to stay ahead of threats, stating, “We’re enhancing MI6’s capabilities with cutting-edge technology to recruit new spies in Russia and worldwide.”
The Foreign Office noted that Silent Courier aims to facilitate intelligence gathering and bolster security.
In his final public speech before stepping down, Moore criticized Russia, asserting there is “no evidence” that Vladimir Putin seeks peace other than Ukraine’s surrender, adding, “He is stringing us along.” Moore further claimed Russia faces economic and demographic decline and that China, Iran, and North Korea support Moscow’s war effort through diplomacy and military aid.
This UK initiative follows the CIA’s 2023 launch of a similar dark web portal to attract Russian agents. However, the CIA suffered significant setbacks when agents in China were exposed through their dark web links, marking one of the agency’s most severe intelligence breaches in years.
Silent Courier is now active and available to anyone wishing to securely share information with the UK.
