Nigeria Immigration To Deliver Passports Within One Week, Decentralises Production

Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, made the announcement on Thursday while inspecting the new Centralised Passport Personalisation Centre at the NIS Headquarters in Abuja.

“The project is fully operational. Nigeria can now provide passport services more efficiently and productively,” Tunji-Ojo stated.

He highlighted that previous machines could only produce 250 to 300 passports daily, whereas the new system can produce between 4,500 and 5,000 passports each day.

“With this capacity, NIS can fulfill daily passport demands within just four to five hours of operation,” he added, calling it a transformative advancement for passport processing in Nigeria.

“We initially promised a two-week delivery time and are now striving to reduce it to one week. Automation and optimisation are key to fulfilling this commitment to Nigerians,” the minister emphasized.

He further noted that centralisation, in line with international best practices, will enhance uniformity and strengthen the global integrity of Nigerian travel documents.

Tunji-Ojo stated that this centralised production aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s reform agenda, significantly increasing NIS capacity and improving service delivery standards.
