Ondo Amotekun Parades Six Suspected Kidnappers, 45 Others
The Ondo State Security Network Agency, popularly known as the Amotekun Corps, has stepped up its operations against criminal activities across the state, arresting six suspected kidnappers alongside 45 others accused of various crimes.
During a parade of the 51 suspects in Akure, the state capital, State Commandant Adetunji Adeleye revealed that the offenses included armed robbery, rape, human trafficking, burglary, and violations of the state’s anti-open grazing law.
Adeleye stated that the arrests were made over a two-week period in different parts of Ondo, crediting the success to the dedication of Amotekun operatives and effective collaboration with other security agencies.
He further detailed that among the detainees were six major kidnapping suspects apprehended in the forests, including 42-year-old Ibrahim and Agu Joseph, a repeat offender who escaped from Okitipupa Custodial Centre and returned to criminal activities before being recaptured by Amotekun.
Other suspects included 29-year-old Amos Kingsley, accused of rape, and 50-year-old Lawal, arrested for involving a minor in grazing, which violates the state’s anti-open grazing regulations.
Ademeye also identified nine individuals posing as hawkers and scavengers who allegedly acted as informants for kidnappers and robbers; names mentioned included David Abdul (22), Abdullai (27), and Sadiq (27)—the latter having fled after being granted bail but was subsequently rearrested.
“We successfully dismantled a notorious kidnapping syndicate operating within our forests. The arrest of one of their armourers marks a significant victory in our fight against abductions,” Adeleye said.
He reiterated that some suspects disguised as hawkers were collaborators gathering intelligence for criminal groups. Out of the 51 suspects, 35 are set to be charged in court, while the rest will undergo internal dispute resolution.
Adeleye issued a stern warning to criminals to steer clear of Ondo State, affirming the corps’ commitment to protecting lives and property.
He stressed that Ondo is unsafe for criminals and pledged to maintain security conducive for investment and agriculture, which are vital for preventing food insecurity.
“After thorough interrogation, 35 suspects will face court proceedings, while others may resolve their cases internally. Either way, Ondo State remains hostile to criminals. We are committed to ensuring safety for residents, investors, and farmers alike,” he said.
