Fubara Resumes Office, To Address State 6p.m.
Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, arrived at Port Harcourt International Airport around 12:19 p.m. on Friday, where he was welcomed by a large crowd of supporters gathered earlier at the VIP wing of the airport in anticipation of his arrival.
After acknowledging the cheers from hundreds of his supporters, he proceeded to the Government House and announced that he would address the state at 6 p.m. regarding the path forward.
On Wednesday, President Bola Tinubu lifted the state of emergency previously imposed on Rivers State. Following this, the Rivers House of Assembly resumed sitting on Thursday and called on Governor Fubara to submit his appropriation bill along with a list of commissioner nominees for screening.
Governor Fubara and his deputy, Ngozi Odu, had been under a six-month suspension since March 18, when President Tinubu declared a state of emergency in response to an ongoing political crisis in the state. During the emergency rule, Tinubu appointed retired Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas as the sole administrator to manage the state’s affairs.
In a state broadcast on Wednesday, Ibas formally handed over power to Governor Fubara and encouraged political stakeholders in Rivers State to pursue dialogue and mutual respect.
