Hansi Flick, Barcelona’s head coach, has strongly criticized Spain’s handling of the injury to Lamine Yamal during the recent international break.

Flick revealed that Yamal went to the Spanish national team already in pain and did not train with them, yet he was still played for significant minutes (79 and 73) in Spain’s World Cup qualifying matches against Bulgaria and Turkey.

Painkillers were apparently used to allow him to play, and he was not given rest or proper care between matches.

Flick called this management “not taking care” of the player and expressed sadness over the situation, emphasizing that such treatment is not how young players and their health should be managed.

As a result of the injury sustained or worsened during duty with Spain, Yamal is sidelined for Barcelona’s La Liga match against Valencia and is doubtful for the upcoming Champions League game against Newcastle United. Flick also mentioned communication with Spain’s coach Luis de la Fuente could be improved.

Yamal’s injury reportedly involves discomfort in the groin/pubic bone area, and he had withdrawn from Barcelona’s training prior to the match due to this issue.
