Oracle’s Ellison Overtakes Elon Musk After $101 Billion Wealth As World’s Richest Person
Elon Musk has been dethroned as the world’s richest man, according to ET Now.
Oracle cofounder Larry Ellison is now the world’s wealthiest individual after his fortune surged by $101 billion to $393 billion, driven by Oracle’s booming AI-powered earnings.
Elon Musk became the richest person in the world in 2021, largely due to the surge in Tesla’s stock price and his ownership stakes in Tesla, SpaceX, and other ventures. His net worth peaked above $400 billion by the end of 2024, briefly reaching as high as $487 billion earlier in 2025.
Musk initially claimed the top spot by becoming the first person ever with a net worth exceeding $300 billion, driven significantly by Tesla’s market value and the rising valuation of SpaceX, his aerospace company.
Musk’s rise to the pinnacle of wealth was supported by his leadership roles in Tesla and SpaceX, as well as other companies like Neuralink and xAI. His wealth reflects the stock performance of these companies, particularly Tesla, whose shares increased dramatically, solidifying Musk’s position as the richest individual.
However, as of September 2025, Oracle co-founder Larry Ellison overtook Musk to become the world’s richest man, after a massive surge in Oracle’s stock driven by their AI infrastructure business. Ellison’s fortune jumped by around $101 billion in one day, reaching $393 billion, surpassing Musk’s $385 billion.
This was triggered by Oracle reporting strong quarterly earnings and projecting significant future revenue growth from AI cloud infrastructure contracts.
Larry Ellison, who co-founded Oracle in 1977 after dropping out of college, retains about 41% ownership of Oracle and is its executive chairman and chief technology officer. At 81 years old, he has seen Oracle’s stock double in 2025 due to the high demand for AI infrastructure.
Apart from his business achievements, Ellison is known for owning 98% of the Hawaiian island of Lānaʻi and revitalizing the Indian Wells tennis tournament, among other personal and philanthropic pursuits.
Elon Musk became the richest man in the world through his innovative leadership and stock value growth in Tesla, SpaceX, and related enterprises starting in 2021. Recently, he was surpassed by Oracle’s Larry Ellison in 2025, whose wealth surged dramatically due to Oracle’s success in the AI cloud market.
