The Federal Government of Nigeria has declared Friday, September 5, 2025, as a public holiday in observance of Eid-ul-Mawlid, which commemorates the birth of Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him).

This declaration was made by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, and announced through a statement by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Dr. Magdalene Ajani.

The government urged Nigerians, regardless of religious affiliation, to use the occasion for prayer for peace, security, and national development while reflecting on the Prophet’s virtues of peace, love, humility, tolerance, and compassion.

The government also called for unity and peaceful coexistence among all citizens during this time .
