Arsenal have signed Ecuadorian defender Piero Hincapie on a season-long loan from Bayer Leverkusen for the 2025-26 season.

The deal includes an option to buy, with Arsenal agreeing a fee of around £45 million (€52 million) should they decide to make the move permanent next summer.

Hincapie, 23, is a versatile defender capable of playing both as a left-sided center-back and left-back.

He has been a key player for Leverkusen, helping them to win their first-ever Bundesliga title in the 2023-24 season and has extensive international experience with Ecuador.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta praised Hincapie’s physical presence, versatility, tactical flexibility, and character, expecting him to strengthen the squad’s defensive options this season. Hincapie will wear the number 5 shirt for Arsenal.

His arrival also facilitated the loan departure of Jakub Kiwior to Porto from Arsenal .
