The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has officially zoned its 2027 presidential ticket to the South region of Nigeria during its 102nd National Executive Committee meeting.
This zoning opens the door for southern politicians, including the Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, among others, to contest for the party’s presidential ticket.
The decision was part of efforts to balance regional interests while retaining Northern region holders for other national offices within the party.
The party is preparing for its November 2025 National Convention in Ibadan, Oyo State, where the presidential candidate will be selected.
Various factions within the PDP are also currently lobbying for different candidates, including former President Goodluck Jonathan and Peter Obi, but the zoning favors candidates from the South, including Makinde.
This internal party decision signals a significant step as the PDP gears up to challenge the ruling party in 2027 .
