
Legendary Juju musician Ahuja Bello died at the age of 83, a day after celebrating his birthday on August 24, 2025.
His son, Adetunji Bello, and daughter confirmed the news of his passing. Born Ismaila Dele Bello in 1942 in Iseyin, Oyo State, he was a celebrated Juju singer, guitarist, and bandleader particularly prominent in the 1970s and early 1980s.
He founded Ahuja Bello and His Golden Eagles Band in 1976 and was known for hit albums like “Awa ti Danfo” and “Ariya ti De” as well as for his energetic performances.
Bello also recorded in London in 1979, where he connected with reggae legend Bob Marley. Though his career was tragically disrupted by a serious accident in 1982, his influence on Nigerian Juju music remains significant and enduring .
