Ladoja Set For Coronation As 44th Olubadan September 26

After years of political turbulence, legal battles, and intense traditional wrangling, Oba Rasidi Ladoja is set to ascend the revered throne as the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland.

His coronation, officially approved by Governor Seyi Makinde, is scheduled for Friday, September 26, 2025, just one day after his 81st birthday, marking a symbolic triumph of resilience and legacy.

The announcement follows a pivotal meeting between the state delegation and members of the Olubadan-in-Council at Ladoja’s Bodija residence, as confirmed by Sentinelnewsng.com. Chief Adeola Oloko, media aide to the Olubadan-designate, affirmed the development, stating, “Oba Ladoja will be enthroned as the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland on Friday, 26 September 2025.”

The coronation ceremony will take place at the historic Mapo Hall, a site deeply woven into the cultural fabric of Ibadan’s monarchy.

Oba Ladoja’s journey to the throne has been anything but smooth. A former governor of Oyo State and a prominent figure in Ibadan’s traditional hierarchy, he has long been at the center of disputes over chieftaincy reforms and succession protocols. His principled opposition to controversial elevation of high chiefs to beaded crown-wearing monarchs in 2017 sparked a prolonged standoff with the state government and fractured the Olubadan-in-Council.

Despite these challenges, Ladoja remained steadfast, refusing to compromise the sanctity of Ibadan’s traditional system. His return to the succession process followed the passing of Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, and on Tuesday, he held a closed-door meeting with the kingmakers at his private residence on Ondo Street, Old Bodija. The gathering, which lasted nearly two hours, marked a significant step in reconciling past tensions and reaffirming his rightful place in the royal lineage.

Now, as the city prepares for his coronation, Oba Ladoja’s rise to the throne stands as a testament to perseverance, principle, and the enduring spirit of Ibadan’s traditional institution.
