Just In: EFCC Grants Bail To Tambuwal Amid Corruption Inquiry

Aminu Tambuwal, the former governor of Sokoto State, has been released from the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) after being detained in connection with a high-profile corruption probe.

Tambuwal was taken into custody on Monday after voluntarily appearing at the EFCC’s corporate headquarters around 11:16 a.m.

He had been invited by the commission to answer questions regarding allegations that, during his tenure as governor, he oversaw the fraudulent withdrawal of approximately N189 billion from state coffers.

Sources within the EFCC revealed that Tambuwal was detained after reportedly failing to provide satisfactory responses during interrogation. Following his detention, he was granted administrative bail after investigators concluded their initial questioning.

“He has just been granted administrative bail. We’ve extracted what we need from him and he will soon leave our headquarters after perfecting his bail conditions,” a senior EFCC operative confirmed.

When pressed on whether Tambuwal would face formal charges or be arraigned in court, the source declined to comment. As of now, the EFCC has not issued an official statement regarding his release or the next steps in the investigation.
