Thomas Partey has signed with Villarreal while currently out on bail facing rape charges in England. The 32-year-old former Arsenal midfielder completed his move to the Spanish club shortly after being granted bail on multiple allegations of rape and sexual assault that reportedly occurred between 2021 and 2022. Partey denies all the charges against him.
Villarreal signed Partey on a one-year contract with an option for an additional year. The club acknowledged the ongoing legal situation but emphasized the principle of presumption of innocence and stated it would not comment further on the case due to legal restrictions in England. They also affirmed their commitment to respect and non-violence, denouncing any form of gender violence or discrimination.
Partey was granted conditional bail requiring him to notify authorities of any address changes or international travel. He is expected to join Villarreal’s training soon and will appear in court again on September 2. His move to Villarreal came days after his contract with Arsenal expired, allowing him to continue his career amid the ongoing legal proceedings.
