Liverpool is set to reduce its financial losses by selling striker Darwin Nunez to Saudi Arabian club Al Hilal. Nunez, who joined Liverpool from Benfica three years ago for an initial fee of around 75 million euros ($87 million), will be sold for an initial fee of approximately 53 million euros (£46.2 million), with potential add-ons that could raise the deal to about £56.6 million (€65 million).

This sale would allow Liverpool to recoup part of their investment in Nunez, who scored 40 goals in 143 appearances but had fallen down the playing order at Anfield under managers Jurgen Klopp and Arne Slot.

The move also aligns with Liverpool’s recent heavy spending spree of about 300 million euros on new players like Hugo Ekitike and Florian Wirtz, which had pushed Nunez further out of the starting lineup. The sale will boost Liverpool’s total player transfer income this window to nearly 200 million euros, following other departures such as Luis Diaz and Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Additionally, selling Nunez paves the way for Liverpool to potentially make a record-breaking bid for Newcastle’s Alexander Isak, with Newcastle reportedly demanding up to £150 million for the Swedish striker. Nunez’s move to Al Hilal places him among a growing cohort of top players joining the Saudi league, which includes several high-profile internationals and former European stars under coach Simone Inzaghi .

In summary, the transfer of Darwin Nunez to Al Hilal will help Liverpool mitigate losses on the player and free resources for striking reinforcements, boosting their financial and strategic position in the current transfer window.
