‘Fayemi still in APC, not among any coalition against Tinubu’
Against media reports claiming that the former Governor of Ekiti State and ex-Chairman of the Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF), Dr Kayode Fayemi, has joined a coalition angling to wrestle power from All Progressive Congress (APC) in 2027, credible sources close to him has denied the reports.
SentinelNewsNG.com gathered that Fayemi had expressed concerns about his name being associated with such a coalition, emphasising that the ex-governor remains committed to the APC, a party he helped found.
The source, however, advised newsmen against “yellow journalism” because Fayemi has not told anybody that he has intention of leaving the APC, of which he was a founding member.
The source said, “People are misconstruing his opposition to how the party is being run for saying he is leaving the party. You know him better. Will he throw the baby out with the bathwater? Apart from being one of the founders, he is a major stakeholder in a state that is wholly APC – Governor, Deputy, House of Assembly, National Assembly – all of whom got to office under his leadership of the party.
“His concerns about the party are well known. I just don’t want his name to be used to create media content.”
The coalition to wrestle power from President Bola Tinubu in 2027 is gaining traction with former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and ex-Governor of Kaduna State, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, rallying opposition politicians and disgruntled APC members to join forces ahead of 2027 presidential election.
