51 days in France: Tinubu’s travel record raises concerns
 By Muyiwa Adeyemi
President Bola Tinubu departed for France on Wednesday, marking his sixth trip to the country since assuming office on May 29, 2023.
This has sparked discussions about his frequent visits to Paris, which include both private and working trips.
Announcing the latest working visit, the President’s spokesperson Bayo Onanuga, stated that the President plans to return in two weeks. If he spends 14 days on this trip, his total time in France will amount to 51 days in six trips to that country since he assumed office.
SentinelNewsNg.com reports that Tinubu traveled to Paris on June 20, 2023, for five days. He went back on June 24, 2024, for 14 days, and visited again on August 19, 2024, for five days.
Another trip occurred on November 27, 2024, lasting five days, followed by an eight-day visit on February 5, 2025. His current trip adds another 14 days to this tally.
Onanuga described the visit as a ‘short working retreat,’ during which Tinubu will evaluate his administration’s midterm achievements, review ongoing reforms, and strategise for the second anniversary of his presidency. The retreat aims to deepen reforms and accelerate national development priorities.
Recent economic progress underscores Tinubu’s commitment to these efforts, highlighted by the Central Bank of Nigeria’s report of a significant rise in net foreign exchange reserves to $23.11 billion, compared to $3.99 billion in 2023.
Despite being abroad, Tinubu will remain actively engaged with his team and oversee governance activities remotely. He is expected to return to Nigeria in about two weeks.
